Wife carrying is a novelty sport in which male competitors race while carrying a female teammate (their wife). The objective is for the male to race carrying his wife over a specially constructed obstacle track in the fastest time.
Ability
A successful wife carrying team typically consists of a strong fit Husband, and a light agile wife.
Description
Wife carrying courses typically include; obstacles to be maneuverered through, over or round. Water to race through, and much water (liquid) thrown by marshals and or spectators.
Husbands may use any style of carrying, including:
Piggyback.
Fireman's Lift (over the shoulder).
Estonian-style (the wife hangs upside-down with her legs around the husband's shoulders, holding onto his waist).
Potential
Wife Carrying World Championships have been annually held in Sonkajärvi, Finland since 1992. The prize is the wife's weight in beer. (A handicap model to be envied).
