Tap Dancing is an energetic and rhythmic style of dancing, it is the sound of the 'Taps' on the soles of the shoes that give the dance the name, as the metal taps on the toe and the heal strike a hard floor. Dances are carried out to music.

Popularity
Tap is a highly popular dance, with many classes carried out throughout the U.K. and the world, famous faces such as Bruce Forsyth and shows such as Lord of the Dance, enhanced it's popularity.

Location
Classes are carried out either at dance schools or in village/memorial halls throughout the U.K. you can also see tap dancing as part of many theatre shows in the U.K.

Age
Most young children start around aged 5 as an after school club and the age range goes as high as till you can keep your toes tapping.

Description
Tap dance originated in the United States in the 19th century, and remains popular today all around the world. The dance is highly exciting while executing moves the taps also make the dance have a kind of percussion effect and the rhythmic noises that you can get with the dance build into a crescendo, exciting and seducing the audience. Many people who start tap do so as an after school club and people later venture to dance troops or the theatre.

Dedication
Usually after school classes happen once a week and work in line with the school holiday rota, though if you join a dance troop you may find yourself practicing more. Most classes put on end of term shows and this can be fascinating with helping with the scenery and the making of costumes.

Potential

Costs to consider are that of classes which can start from as little as £3 per class, Tap Shoes are available from a very reasonable £13.99, some classes may require a uniform of a skirt and leotard these prices start from approx. £4.
