Standing jump, Jumping from a standing position. is an excellent way of testing a persons leg development, elastic leg strength and explosive leg power.
Popularity
A popular sporting event at junior schools, and within athletic clubs, and is commonly competed at social sporting events. Widely practised by athletes of all sports needing leg strength, as part of their regular training programme.
Location
Standing jumps can be performed anywhere there is a long jump pit or safe landing area (landing mats). An activity competed year round, both indoors and outside by individuals, it is rarly a team event.
Age
An important monitor for any age, for recording the development of a young persons leg development to monitoring a top athletes leg fitness. Top athletes have reached distances of females 3 metres / males 3.5 metres.
Ability
As an athlete is competing against them-self, any ability can perform standing jumps. To be really successful an athlete needs to be generally fit, posses great leg strength and elasticity, and the mental strength and motivation to perform.
Description
The athlete places there feet over the edge of the sand pit. Crouches, and leaning forward , swings arms backwards then springs (jumps) horizontally as far as possible, with both feet into the sand pit. Measured or judged as for long jump.

The potential of this activity is in the monitoring / measuring of your own performance against yourself and against standards set by people of similar age and gender.
