Motorcycle racing is a sport that encompasses a rider on a motor bike competing against like minded people on a track of specific design, be it solo or sidecars. This includes bikes from 50cc to super bike level of 1000cc.
Popularity
An extremely popular sport with riders and spectators realising many events throughout the year; with races being local and international events.
Location
Obviously an outdoor sport performed in many parts of the UK with well known and not so well known racing circuits.
Age
Motor cycle racing starts at a young age around 6 years leading through local events and competitions to mid to late teens when you can progress to more avid racing. The life of a racer dependant on skill retire from competition around their 30's
Description
As motorcycles vary greatly in design, there are several different types of motorcycle racing contests. Circuit racing which we have focused on here is where specially designed racing bikes or modified production bikes race each other on specially designed road circuits. MotoGP and Superbike are the top level racing and production classes. Classic Racing is where participants race heavily modified bikes from an earlier era - usually pre mid '70s bikes.
Dedication
Motorcycle racing in all its varied forms including the most popular being Grand Prix motorcycles, Superbike racing, Classic Racing, Pocketbike Racing, Dirt track racing and Club Level Road Racing. All have their own category of dedication. Racing is a dedicated sport in that fitness is a prime requisite as well as co-ordination, balance, and hours of training to be anywhere near able to compete in the front line.
Potential
There is huge potential in this sport to become recognised, or to fulfill a dream of competing on a track such as Silverstone, Donnington or even the Isle of Man

Closely related activities include mechanics, race organisation, fitness training and diet. Implementation of rules and regulations. Understanding and promoting sponsorship for which much of the sport would not be able to function.

It is impossible to create any cost index or guide here as the variables are great as there are machines available. Modification costs and racing insurance all bodies of cost; that vary from club to raceway.
