A highly ornate and complex style of European architecture, art, and music of the 17th and 18th centuries In or relating to a style or period. Highly ornate and extravagant in style. Baroque meaning an oval pearl.

Popularity
Being ignored for decades, baroque music has become increasingly popular over the last fifty years. As part of this new interest, musicians have spent countless hours trying to discover how the music might have sounded to 17th/18th Century Audiences.

Location
Location is confined to orchestras and performed in most major cities and orchestral venues

Age
Music has always been available to all ages, however baroque does require a certain amount of improvisation as there are no proper scores, so some formal training is required to understand the concept.

Ability
It is probably with exception to genius's, that a formal education and study of an instrument is required usually strings

Description
A baroque score contains little (if any) information about elements like articulation, ornamentation or dynamics, and so modern ensembles need to make their own informed choices before each performance. Mechanical differences between baroque and modern instruments also suggest that the older instruments would have sounded differently, so ensembles like Music of the Baroque often adjust their technique to allow for this. Baroque is used for expression such as in line and displaying architecture.

Dedication
The baroque period ended over 250 years ago, vestiges of the era can be heard everywhere. Some of the most influential and beloved compositions are regularly performed in concert halls, and a wealth of recordings make the baroque available on demand. Musical genres still in use today, like the oratorio, concerto and opera, originated in the period. Twentieth century composers such as Ralph Vaughn Williams, Igor Stravinsky and Benjamin Britten paid homage to the baroque in their works.

Potential
The potential of playing and understanding baroque style music is an avenue for many to get into public performance's or form small groups like a quartet for formal dinner gatherings or church festivities.
