Framing a picture is largely a matter of personal taste, influenced by the fashion of the day, or period of the pictures origin, also by the capability of the framer. Modern pictures may be hung behind glass with no border frame. The long established classical frame has a wooden boarder frame, that may be simple and plain or frames made from wood with decorative turnings. Olden day picture frames (Victorian)were often made from alabaster, containing ornate and very elaborate carvings.
