A competitive British team game, played mainly by women and children. Similar to baseball, a batter attempts to strike a ball and run round a marked area, to score a rounder. The team that scores the most rounders wins.
Popularity
Rounders is popularly played as a competitive game, in British schools. It is also popularly played as a social game, often consisting of mixed ages. (An ideal family game).
Location
Rounders, is a summer game, played outdoors, in school recreation areas, parks and at the beach.
Age
Children from as young as four or five years old can be introduced to a mixed age game of rounders. There is no upper age restriction.
Ability
Usefull abilities to posses are; A good eye! (the ability to hit a bowled ball, with a narrow bat). The ability to run. The ability to catch a ball.
Description
The fielding team is allowed to field up to nine players, that includes one bowler and one catcher. Other players take positions at each of the bases or elsewhere on the field. The bowler bowls the ball with an underarm action to the batsman. It is a good ball if it passes within reach on the striking side between the batsman's knees and shoulder. Otherwise, it is called a no-ball. Batsmen run between bases when a batter receives a good ball, to advance further around the circuit
Dedication
Scoring: A rounder is scored if a member of the batting team completes a circuit of the bases without being 'out.' A batsman is out if: a hit ball is caught runs to a base that has been 'stumped' by a fielder carrying the ball .
Potential
Although it is generally considered a school game, rounders is played at international level. Currently, teams from Canada, England, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Scotland and Wales. In 2008,the Rounders World Cup will be held in Sheffield, England

Rounders Bat, A proper rounders bat will cost £5, although social games are often played with a bat made from a broken brush handle. Ball, A white leather covered ball £3, which is often substituted by a tennis ball. Bases, Rubber Mats or posts 6x £5, or as more often, players coats or jackets.
