Snowboarding is a relatively new sport that involves descending a snow-covered slope on a single snowboard. Snow Boarding is similar to skiing, but inspired by surfing and skateboarding.

Popularity
Since being developed in the United States in the 1960s, snowboarding has become a major winter snow sport and recreational activity. Becoming accepted as a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998.

Location
Most winter snow sport locations throughout the world, now cater for snowboarding.

Age
Snowboarding has no minimum or maximum age limit's, making snowboarding an ideal family winter sporting activity.

Ability
Snowboard instruction is available at most resorts, from certified snowboard instructors. Professional instruction will teach proper techniques, safety policies, mountain etiquette as well as resort rules.

Description
To recreational snowboarders The snowboard offers an exhilarating way of descending the snow slopes. As a competitive sport, there are six different events in snowboarding (slalom, parallel slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom, snowboardercross and halfpipe) but only two are currently contested at the Winter Olympics. These events being the giant slalom and the halfpipe.

Potential
Although snowboarding is a competitive winter sport with olympic potentials, to most it is an annual winter recreational holiday activity, looked forward to and eagerly anticipated for months beforehand.

Destination costs vary greatly, depending on the location, time of the year and quality of accommodation chosen. Other costs include; The hire or purchase of a snowboard. The hire or purchase of boots and bindings. goggles. Suitable clothing. Travel and accident insurance. instruction.
