Train Spotting is a favourite past time of the young and old of men and women, usually referred to as a 'anorak' as they would be out in all weathers waiting for the trains and taking notes.
Popularity
Hugely popular with people making a whole day out of it taking picnics and spending time in the country, to lunch at a restaurant or cafe.
Location
Trains can be observed from any SAFE and open to the public vantage point, ( track side, station platform or bridge).
SAFETY is always paramount, never venture past any safety structure, however tempting, it is both dangerous and illegal.
Age
Trainspotting was in the past a huge interest. It is suitable for people of all ages although young children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Ability
You will need a note book, train timetable, some people like to take a manual with information on train models and types to be able to identify the train and possibly a camera for scrap-booking.
Description
People train spot for many different reasons, this can start from an interest as a young child, to that of the adult wanting a few hours peace away from home. Sometimes whole families will go out trainspotting making a family fun day out. The objective can be to just see/log what comes along or for a spotter to be able to identify and log every type of train used by a particular company.
Dedication
The beauty of this interest is you can make it what you want it to be, from a regular weekend interest to once a month or even a particular time of year, this is your interest you do what you decide and how you want to do it, though some people are so dedicated they will be out in all weathers.
Potential
Potential to have lots of fun and even make new friends with a similar interest, possibly join a club or group.
Cost
Trainspotting doesn't have to cost very much at all, start from the price of a notebook and pencil, to outdoor wear and cameras the choice is yours on what equipment you decide you can afford to buy.
