Tug of War is a fantastic sport and can be enjoyed by all persons whether able or disabled. There are 8 persons per side and each team has a coach. It is very competitive with everyone wishing to represent England. TOW was an Olympic Sport.
Popularity
At this point of time there are 65 Clubs in the UK who compete at all levels of competition. From fun pulls to Internationals. This would give us in the region 800 throughout the UK and where ever you go, someone at one time has pulled TOW.
Location
TOW is pulled both Indoor and Outdoor which means we have two seasons. March to September Outdoor and September to February for the Indoor. Indoor is pulled on matting in a sports hall. Outdoor is pulled on a flat grass surface.
Age
Age groups are 15 to 17years. Under 23's. Ladies and Men's. The age groups pull at different weight classes to suit the age category.
Ability
The ability for every one is to have the enthusiasm. there is no greater feeling than winning going backwards. No special qualifications are required, but pullers can attend a Coaches Course. Which covers all aspects of the sport.
Description
People get into the Sport through the Schools. Then the Youth Clubs and then join a TOW Club who pulls in the 15 to 17 years age group. Then 18 to 23 which is known as the Under 23's and the finally as a Senior. Either a Senior female or Senior male. They pull in Club competitions, National Championships both Indoor and Outdoor and then go on to represent England. At both outdoor and Indoor Tug of War
Dedication
The Outdoor Season is from March until the end of September of each year. The Indoor season is from October until the end of February the next year. United Kingdom - World and European Championships are pulled in August and September of the year. Training League run from February till March of each year.
Potential
National Outdoor Championships are held on the third Saturday in June of each year and the Indoor National Championships are staged on the first Saturday in December of each year.

Cost
The cost of competing and training is comparatively cheap. All you need is a Rugby Type shirt, a pair of shorts and a pair of boots. The total cost would be no more than ?70.00. A pair of trainers is all that is required for Indoor Tug of War.
