Camping, staying in a tent. Camping is one of the first big adventures for children, whether a day time camp in the garden or the first night out with friends without mum. A cheap way to family holiday, anywhere, anytime, for as long as you choose.

Popularity
Camping is very popular most people have tried it. camping is very popular with hikers and touring cyclists because of the ability to travel light and stop when they want. Campsites can be found through the countryside and in most holiday towns.

Location
Camping locations range from your own back garden, to small very basic hideaway campsites, too large holiday centres with all facilities and entertainment provided. When camping you can reach and stay in areas you would not normally be able to access

Suitable for all ages, a true family holiday adventure. A great leveler with the children equal with parents. Elder people do often change to caravanning lured by the extra comfort and luxury on offer.

Ability
Suitable for people of all abilities and disability, although because of the nature and terrain of camp sites, it does depend on the facilities taken by the camper and the facilities offered by the individual campsite.

Description
An adventure from the moment you arrive on your chosen site, picking the right place to pitch your tent, pitching your tent especially for the first time, cooking in the open, (thank goodness for takeaways), sleeping in the open with the natural noises, the darkness, broken only by torches and flickering lamps. You can nowadays hire a tent and all the necessary equipment on some larger sites, very handy for beginners or families who want to travel with out all the extra bulk involved.

Dedication
One of the attractions of camping is the flexibility, you choose when and where you camp. and you can go as frequently or infrequently as you choose. Camping is a good way of meeting up with a group of old friends or family when there is two many to stay in one house. Another advantage is you can store your camping equipment in the smallest of homes for when next wanted.

Caravanning, families often do both. The love of the open air life style is often kindled by membership and childhood experiences of Scouts, Guides, Boys Brigade and other such youth organisations.

A very economical way to holiday and to travel. A very basic two man tent can be purchased from £10, at the other extreme a luxury family double skinned family tent with several bedrooms can cost £1000, Joining a camping club for around £30 a year is a good idea as it gives listings, locations and facilities offered by thousands of sites throughout the UK. Nightly site fees range from £3 per tent per night to £25 per unit for a site providing entertainment and full facilities in high season.
