Wakeskating is a new watersport which is an adaptation of wakeboarding, it uses a similar design of board, but unlike wakeboarding, the rider is not bound to the board in any way, which gives the sport its own unique challenges.
Popularity
This is becoming a very popular water sport bringing a whole different aspect to skiing and surfing, this is more of an extreme sport. Extreme sports are becoming more and more popular.
Location
In sheltered bays or on lakes. Wake Skating needs relatively calm or flat water, when compared to Water Skiing or Boarding. Due largely to the fact that the rider is not attached to the board.
Age
There is no official age restriction to taking part in Wake Skating, starting ages do tend to be higher than other water sports, due largely to the fact that most Wake Skaters are attracted to the sport after gaining competence in other activities.
Ability
You will need a good sense of balance a medium level of physical fitness and the ablity to swim.
Description
Wakeskaters differ from Wakeboarders in that they are not bound to the board, Instead, the top surface of the Wakeskaters board is covered with griptape, (in a similar fashion to a skateboard) or a soft, high-traction, foam covering that is kinder to riders in the inevitable crashes. Riders usually wear shoes while riding to afford themselves extra grip on the board, similar to skateboarding.
