Sledging also known as Sleighing and Sleding, is the Winter recreational pastime of sliding down a snow covered hillside on a sledge. Which is a light frame supported by two runners which slide on the snow. An enjoyable family activity.

Popularity
It is always remarkable how many people at the first arrival of snow, rush to the nearest hillside. To go sledging and inevitably "snowballing".

Location
In great Britain, on seasonally snow covered banks and hillsides.

On all weather ski slopes, (only some of which allow sledging).

A foreign winter holiday destination, where snow covered slopes can be assured.

Age
Sledging is an activity that is well suited to the whole family as a fun recreational activity, in which they can all partake.

Ability
It must always be remembered by riders and spectators alike that sledging is a potentially dangerous pastime. Due to the limited control of direction over sliding sledges, and the inexperience of the riders.
ALWAYS THINK OF OTHERS WHEN SLEDGING.

Description
The enjoyment of seasonal sledging, can largely be split into three sections; Firstly the anticipation as to whether there will be suitable conditions. Secondly the building of your sledge, in anticipation of snowy conditions. And thirdly the sledging; Depending on the size of the sledge, one, two or more sit or lay on the sledge and Career down the snow covered slope, speed and direction largely being determined by the contours of the slope. Remembering what slides down, must be pulled back up.

Dedication
As sledging is solely dependent on the limited periods of snowy weather, opportunists use a wide range of apparatus to slide down the slopes, under the name of sledging. These can range from tea trays to plastic bags, even sheets of corrugated plastic, the front being lifted by a piece of rope pulled up by the rider.
Dedicated and forward planing riders leave their sledges out in the snow to freeze the runners in an attempt to go faster. Sledging is an activity of opportunist ingenuity.

Potential
For those who catch the bug of sledging and want to pursue it as a competitive sport, Unfortunately must travel to countries where there is naturally and consistent snow. sledging as a competitive sport uses purpose constructed sledging course's.
