Dragon Dancing is brought to the U.K. from China, Dragons are an auspicious part of the Chinese history and culture, Dragon Dancing is used for Feng Shui (pronounced Fung Shway, the art of placement and balancing energy) Purposes.

Dragon Dances are very popular in China as an event for the Chinese New Year and also for Feng Shui purposes dances are carried out at the doors of a new business to help bring luck and prosperity.

Though originating in China the Chinese people have brought many of their arts and traditions to the U.K and we have embraced in the hope of balance, fulfillment and enlightenment, find dancers or classes all over the U.K.

Many young children love to take part in the Dragon Dance which is welcomed to show that Dragons are indeed something to prosper and respect and not be afraid off, this rises to any age who want to take part.

You do not need any special abilities to Dragon Dance, though with some of the beautifully HUGE dragons that dance strength is sometimes a bonus but the ability to just enjoy and have fun are really all that is required.

To the people of China the Dragon is the most special of animals and dates back to ancient times and is found in their music, poetry and other writings, though in our history it is believed that dragons maybe evil, Chinese people believe Dragons to be kind and helpful bringing much luck, seeing them in land, sea and skies, looking over them and bringing prosperity, it has therefore been a long tradition that the Dragon Dance is performed giving thanks and promoting balance, luck and prosperity.

Dancers practice for months to get their routine right for the New Year celebrations, they make and create their own dragons some of these are HUGE with heads with intricate and colourful designs and mouths that actually move, the bodies are raised on poles with the dancers under the cloth, twisting and turning the bodies, this is a highly desirable and fun adventure, join a club and become a dancer or designer or follow the shows and spectate.

Join a club or community and learn more about Ancient Chinese ways and perform at shows or be hired out to perform a dance of luck on a new business or home. Though the beliefs in the Dragon are true and sincere there is much fun to be had.
