Known as the sport of kings and a largely professional sport, often inextricably associated with gambling. Horse racing is competed on the flat (flat racing) or over obsticles (national hunt), and competed by Thoroughbreds, Arabian or Quarter horses.

Popularity
Horse racing is popular in countries all over the world, and has been throughout history. Popular with owners and riders, by far largest interest is from race followers and spectators. To many racing is a social spectical not to be missed.

Location
There are sixty racecourses spread over the British isles. Many followers of racing rarely attend race meetings, watching on television or listening on the radio from home.

Age
Horse racing is not an activity for young children, There are various minimum ages for registering as a jockey, trainer or owner. And also the age on which you can place a bet. You can enter the sport from around 16yrs, as a stable boy or girl.

Ability
The Jockey Club is responsible for riders (jockeys), The British Horse Racing Board. Remain to this day the regulators of racing in the United Kingdom, responsible for strategic planning, finance, politics, race planning, training and marketing.

Description
Horse racing more than any other sport is steeped in tradition and protocol, (there is even a dress code for spectators at some of the more prestigious meetings). and because of the huge financial implications is heavily regulated at all levels.

Dedication
To be successful in horse racing at any level, demands almost total dedication. The breeding, training and racing of horses in many countries is now a significant economic activity as, to a greater extent, is the gambling industry which is largely supported by it. Exceptional horses can win millions of pounds for their owners from racing and when retired much more from breeding.
