Golf is a game played with a small hard ball and clubs on a green with holes, the object being to get the ball to the hole in as least hits as possible, a game enjoyed by men, women and children.
Popularity
Golf originated in Scotland but has been played (in 2006) for at least 5 centuries and is played all over the world with many tournaments taking place, including international tournaments.
Location
Golf is usually played at clubs where there are special greens, in the UK and all over the world.
Age
Children can start from a young age with adult supervision there are now mini golf sets available from all good sports out lets to enable young children to play, there is no upper age limit.
Ability
It is advisable to take instruction when starting to play golf as although the regular and professional players make it look so easy there is in fact a lot of technique that needs to be learnt.
Description
Play starts at the beginning of a numbered course with the small hard white ball being mounted on a T which is pressed into the grass the player then chooses an appropriate club from the numbered 'woods' or 'irons' in the kit and strikes the ball towards the first hole and so on. There are 18 and 9 hole courses though 9 hole courses are played twice. There are hazards such as water and sand bunkers and there is a specialised scouring and ranking system.

You will get out as much as you put into this sport, like learning most new things, dedication is the name of the game.

From playing in a local club to playing the big time like Tiger Woods, many clubs hold their own tournaments.

Cost
Check with your local club or driving range for up to date, you will also need to invest in a glove, golfing shoes, clubs and club bag, some people also employ a caddy to carry their kit around, this is sometimes a formal arrangement made between the player and the caddy.
