Family support through a network of volunteers, offers support, friendship and practical help to families at home with children under five years of age.
Location
Family support groups operate throughout the country, where ever there is a need.
Age
Volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parent or have parenting experience.
Ability
Volunteers are carefully selected for their friendliness and understanding, and are appropriately approved and attend a course of preparation before being linked with a family. Like a friendship volunteers only visit at the invitation of the family.
Description
Family support offers the sort of back up traditionally provided by a mother or a friend, giving a shoulder to cry on, an adult to talk to or confide in, someone who can give a harassed parent a break for a couple of hours a week, to go shopping or just to go out on their own with their own thoughts for a little while. They might just play with the child or children giving mum the all important time to do something mundane like the ironing, volunteers are the fairy godmother we all wished for.
