Vol Drive is a voluntary organisation, in which voluntary drivers take people without transport to visit relatives, fulfil hospital appointments, go shopping or on outings. A very socially rewarding activity. (fuel costs are sometimes reimbursed).

Popularity
A universally popular activity in which the requests for its services always outstrips the supply of drivers.

Location
Groups of voluntary drivers are found in local communities across the country.

Age
There is a minimum age to this activity, as voluntary drivers must hold a valid driving licence, and be an experienced driver. This is an activity ideally suited to someone recently retired, as much of the service is required in work-time hours.

Ability
Although the ability to drive would seem to be the single most important ability to posses, equally important is the ability to chat and to listen, as this is an activity of support and companionship as much as one of providing transport.

Description
The provision of voluntary transport is as important to the rurally isolated as to the urban housebound. Vol drive provides a service that although not necessary for basic life, provides an extra quality and connivance to someone less fortunate than yourself. By the provision of this service you could be providing not only the ability, but the inspiration for someone to make a visit they would not have made or thought possible.

Dedication
A few hours a week is all that is necessary to commit, although the ability to forward plan your commitment would normally be required.

Potential
Vol Drive is an activity in which the potential is in personal satisfaction, many friendships are made, from the provision of this much needed and appreciated service.

Closely Related Activities
There are many organisations dedicated to helping people in your local community, some of which are; Family Support 306, Hospital League of Friends 307, Red Cross 311, Samaritans 312, St John Ambulance 314, Advocates 298, Bereavement councillor 300.

Cost
Services provided vary between local organisations, some rely on the volunteers providing their own car, whilst others posses their own vehicle, needing only voluntary drivers. The common bond being that the volunteers are not out of pocket financially.
