Monster Truck racing started with literally putting bigger wheels on a standard Ute/pickup. These days it requires tubular frames, fibre glass bodies and a whole library full of rules and regulations in order to race and drive over vehicles safely.

Popularity
This is a wonderful sport and really popular, not just for the thrill of seeing it but the entertainment it gives, a great family day out for participants and spectators alike.

Location
Make no mistake, this is a professional points making sport with the drivers gunning for the a title; they are not their just for show. There is couple of places where this is carried out in the UK.

Age
Because of the nature of the sport, the size of the vehicles, the specifications that have to be met, the age is roughly 25 plus to drive, but obviously why shouldn't younger members be involved in the setting and learn whilst they mature.

Ability
For a BIGFOOT Driver, you must be 25 years of age with a good driving record & have a current Commercial Drivers License. With at least 3 years over the road experience. PATIENCE is a must as is a good appearance and serve 2 years apprenticeship.

Description
Typically, a monster truck show involves the truck crushing smaller vehicles beneath its huge tires. These trucks can run up and over most man-made barriers, so they are equipped with remote shut-off switches, called the Remote Ignition Interuptor (RII), to help prevent an accident if the driver loses control at any time. At some events, only one truck is on the course at a time, while most feature two drivers racing each other on symmetrical tracks, with the losing driver eliminated.

Dedication
In recent years, many monster truck competitions have ended with a freestyle event. Somewhat akin to figure skating with giant trucks, drivers are free to select their own course around the track and its obstacles. Drivers will often try a 'Donut', also called a Cyclone, which involves spinning the truck in a high speed circle, and maybe even deliberately rolling the truck over.

Potential
Though performed at some county shows, mostly they perform in arenas created for stock car and banger racing circuits. It has yet to really make its mark in the UK and is basically an American sport.

Closely Related Activities
Mechanics, knowledge of electrical relay's and electrics, working to exact specifications, welding, spraying, graphics are among some of the related activities.

Cost
Its impossible to put a price here on such a technically involved sport and pastime. Logically I suppose if your are creating your own unit to race I think a starting price 5 grand would be realistic.
