The game of Pool is similar to snooker and billiards. It is played with one white cue ball and fifteen numbered object balls on a table with cues. Usually by 2 players.

Popularity
Pool, is still a very popular game and is very skillful. They share the same table of play. Tables of scaled down size are available to allow play at home by all family members, promoting Pool as a family game.

Location
There are many Pool and Snooker clubs around the country and therefore plenty of opportunities to play the game of Pool. Most full size tables tend to be situated in specialist clubs, due to the amount of space required to house a 12ft X 6ft table.

Age
Players can play at home from any age, as long as they can reach the table and can hold a cue. Pubs and clubs often have a minimum age of entrance into the hall, either 16 or 18 yrs. Some allow younger people in at certain advertised times.

Ability
The joy of the game is that anybody of any ability can play it. It is best to try to find someone of your own ability to make sure that the games are as evenly matched as possible. Many clubs will have matches for beginners.

Description
Pool is played on a pocket billiard table with one white ball and fifteen numbered object balls. It is normally played by two players ,but can be played by pairs or teams. Points are scored by pocketing designated balls in designated pockets. The first player to reach the agreed number of points wins the game.

Dedication
Pool in common with other cue and ball games, is all about angles and being able to judge them. As a beginner you should often play for the natural half ball strokes (striking the cue-ball central aiming to the edge of the ball you are striking at) and as you become more experienced you can experiment with side etc. Obviously, it takes a lot of practice to become proficient at the game and even more to be able to master thick edges, thin edges and sides and screwbacks.

Potential
Although played by most players as a social game between friends, there are many tournaments (normally of a knock out nature) that can be entered, both locally and nationally.
