A robot fighting competition is an event usually involving home built robots. In which the aim is to disarm or push from the arena, the other robots, by almost any means imaginable; pushing, bashing, tipping over, whilst avoiding the same fate.
Popularity
An activity that is equally popular with spectators as with contestants.
Location
Robots are constructed in homes, schools or colleges, where their latest ploy or innovation can be kept secret from the prying eyes of competitors. Competitions are held in secure indoor arenas measuring at least 50ft X 50ft.
Age
Competitions can have age restrictions; under 14, 16 or 18 yrs or else they are open aged, making this an ideal mixed age (family) pastime.
Ability
To construct a fighting robot at least some of the group must have a sound technical knowledge and posses mechanical, electrical and engineering skills.
Description
This is an activity of both ingenuity and strategy, do you build a robot of defensive strength, or speed to avoid attack or do you design one that is capable of destroying or disarming in some novel way the other competitors.
Dedication
This is an activity of great dedication, needing many hours over many months of designing, constructing and modifying to arrive at a competition day in which your robots fate could be decided in seconds.
Potential
The potential to many fighting robot contestants is to return home after a competition with a robot that is still in working or repairable condition.

Cost
Current cost of an annual membership of the Fighting Robot Association is £10. The cost of materials needed for building a robot is completely open ended, although some competitions do have a maximum material cost restriction.
