Popularity
Although rugby league is played in more than 30 countries, it is most popular in the north of England, Eastern Australia, parts of New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea, where rugby league is recognised as the national sport.
Location
Rugby league is an outdoor game played by two teams on a rectangular grass field with a length generally double the width, (approximately 60yds by 120yds).
Age
Children from the age of nine can enter the British champion schools tournament, this has various age categories and although segregated is open to boys and girls. (over 1200 teams took part in 2006). mini/mod rugby can be played by the under nines.
Description
The aim of the game is to score points by carrying the ball up the field towards the opposing team's goal where the ball is grounded, scoring a try (worth four points). This is to be done by the attacking team within a set of six tackles before the ball must be handed over to the opposition. The opposing team attempts to prevent this by physically tackling the player with the ball. After scoring a try the scoring team attempts to kick a goal (worth a further two points).
Dedication

Rugby league demands a commitment to achieve necessary fitness and stamina to achieve team selection as well as training time to learn game tactics and a deep understanding of fellow team members intended moves and passes.
Potential
To most the highest potential of the domestic game is the knockout competion for the prestigeous Carnegie challenge cup. To many players and team followers of this passionately played game is one of the pride of winning a local derby game.

Related Activities
Although there were many reasons for the split from Rugby Union, the main division was caused by the RFU decision to enforce the amateur principle of the sport, preventing 'broken time payments' to players who had taken time off work to play rugby.
