Popularity
Horse shoeing is a rural profession that almost died out in the mid 20th century. Due to the advent advent of motor transport, which led directly to the demise of working horses. This has now been dramatically reversed by increased leisure riding.
Ability
The shoeing of horses is an activity that cannot be undertaken by anybody who is not fully trained, having under-taken a full apprenticeship. This is a requirement of British law.
