A group of organised singers, (under the direction of a conductor). made up of either mixed or single sex singers. Can be musically accompanied or not. Often associated with a church or cathedral.

Choir singing is one of the most popular forms of singing, as it avoids the singers shyness to sing solo. Choir singing has been the inspirational springboard for many later to become famous singing soloists.

Church and school Choirs can be found in most towns and villages across the country, there are also many community or work related choirs to be found.

Choir singing is an activity that can be enjoyed by any age, from children singing in their school choir. To quite elderly people singing in their local community choir. Some choirs may have an age grouping, restriction.

Choir singing probably caters for the widest range of singing ability. The ability and willingness to take musical direction being the most important.

Choir singing is normally performed socially to entertain others, often as a lead accompaniment to the audience or congregation. Choir singing can also be a competitive activity, with many competitions and categories.

The amount of time and dedication necessary is up to the individual choir master, This is normally dependant on the amount of new material to be learnt, and the standard the choir wants to achieve.
