Like horse polo, the bicycle version of the game is contested by two teams. The simple objective for each team is to score a greater number of goals than its opponent within a specified amount of time.

The sport of bicycle Polo is more popular outside of the UK. However, there are a few clubs situated in the UK. There is little kit required except for a bicycle (obviously), a mallet and a polo ball.

A grassy area constitutes the playing fiekld, and you can play on almost any size or surface depending on availability. Just remember, falls do happen and grass is softer than asphalt or dirt!

Players of all ages can enjoy the game, whether its to play or even watch. It is a fast, skilful and challenging game, yet easy to learn.

The game of Bicycle Polo, if you haven't already worked it out for yourself, is a variation of the equestrian game with a bicycle being substituted for the polo pony. Bicycle Polo was invented in Ireland in 1891 and emulates the game of regular polo. Although it is not as glamorous as the equine variety, Bicycle Polo offers as much challenge and fun without the prohibitive price tag.
