Sea Cadets is a club for young people to join and experience the life of the Royal Navy but with a HUGE fun element thrown in. Originally set up to help orphaned war children it is now an exciting club.
Popularity
Hugely popular with clubs all over the UK, for boys and girls, other countries in the world also now have their own version.
Location
Clubs are situated through out the UK.
Age
Children join from the age of 12-18 years though proving so popular they have now opened a junior section for 10-12 year old.
Ability
You do not need any special abilities to join the Sea Cadets and especially encourage disabilities and special needs to come and take part were possible.
Description
Sea Cadets has been running since the Crimean War(1854-1856, when sailors returning wanting to help the orphans in the sea ports by setting up 'Naval Lads Brigades'. Today the Sea Cadets is a hugely exciting opportunity, not only experiencing the life of the Royal Navy and focusing on the water, there are lots of other interests they follow such as rock climbing, learning radio communications and many more. A rank structure is in place to give children roles of responsibility and to progress.
Dedication
Sea Cadets is not a recruitment energy for the Royal Navy, though some will go onto join the Navy and progress extremely well. The object is to have fun, learn responsibility and new skills such as technical and leadership skills.
Potential
Firstly have fun. Through some of the activities it is possible to work towards your Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme or even. the BTEC First Diploma in Public Services. There are many other awards and qualifications attainable through the Sea Cadets.
