Popularity
As yet not very many people play underwater rugby, because of this under water rugby is often played in mixed male-female teams.
Location
Under Water Rugby is a swimming pool game, now played around the world by Free divers, scuba divers and snorkelers.
Age
There is no age restriction in Under Water Rugby, although teams in common with other competitive sports are separated by age and experiance.
Ability
The ability to dive competently is essential before attempting to play, however Under Water Rugby is a great way to improve your diving experiance and technique.
Description
The game always takes place under water and the ball must not leave the water. The ball can be passed (in any direction) to the other players. It “flies” only about 2m or 3m before it stops due to the water resistance. This makes good tactics and good (three dimensional) positioning essential. The players can use different abilities. Strength, speed, mobility or simply low consumption of oxygen all are similarly important.
Dedication
A favorite pastime of divers looking for extra conditioning, underwater rugby increases lung capacity, improves swimming skills and demands and enhances endurance and speed. A game lasts for thirty minutes and teams consist of six players and five substitutes. Because of the high phisical demands, substitutions may be made at any point of play. although a phisical contact sport, injuries are extremely rare.
Potential
Under Water Rugby is an exciting and addictive game played at the bottom of a pool. Once an entertaining way of keeping diving fit, now a recognised sport with recognised inter club, national and inter national competitions.
