Boogie Board is the brand name of a body board and has become synonymous with any type of body board. A bodyboard is generally a small, roughly rectangular piece of foam which is ridden over waves much like a surf board.
Location
There are many UK beaches which are suitable for bodyboarding, in particular in Devon and Cornwall, but all over the UK
Age
Literally anybody, as long as you can swim. If you?re younger than eight you need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian as well. The upper age limit is open to anybody that feels they fancy a go.
Ability
Bodyboarding offers a more accessible option to catching waves than surfing, it?s safer and the rewards come much quicker, whilst to master the sport at the top end the skill level is just as high as surfing.
Description
Bodyboarding is very popular, probably because to catch a wave on a piece of polystryrene is very easy!! If you are a child or a tourist you stand in the whitewater, stick the base of the board in your stomach, wait till the (broken) wave hits you up the bum and -take off!
Dedication
As with any sport where you are at the mercy of the wind and waves there are certain safety principles you should always obey. The most obvious thing is that you should be a good swimmer and fairly fit. Whilst it's relatively easy to paddle around on your board, you may lose it and you should be confident that you can swim in unaided.
