Egg Catching and Throwing events are normally competed casualty as part of a fun day or fund raising event. The eggs used are normally un-marketable as a foodstuff. Egg catching can be entered into by anyone, and draws large crowds of spectators.
This pastime is organised as an individual event, entered into on the day of competition, there is no national or local organisation. Unique rules and conditions are drawn up for each individual event.
Normally competed as part of a summertime outdoor public fun day.
The ability to throw and catch, carefully.
The four competed disciplines are; DISTANCE = solo, object to see how far an egg can be thrown without it breaking. THROW and CATCH = solo, An egg is thrown forward and must be caught by the thrower. THROW and Catch = pairs, An egg is thrown forward and caught intact by partner. Target = team, Teams produce a device capable of propelling an egg at a target (normally human, provided by an opposing team). A competition of accuracy.
Although this is an event that may be entered into on the day, with no practise or previous experiance. With practise quite remarkable distances can be achieved, it is all down to technique, rather than phisical stature. With practice you may not end up with egg on your face. Go on, have a go, prove your no Chicken (sorry, it couldn't be resisted).
Remarkably this activity has not been included in the 2012 London Olympic games.
Egg and Spoon Race,
