Modern Day Jousting (ring Jousting) is an equine recreational sport, The object being to gallop your horse down a track and attempt to spear small suspended rings with the use of a lance.

Popularity
Modern Day Jousting is a recreational sport, yet the competitive spirit of the knights and maidens remains alive and well. It is not uncommon for participants and spectators alike to nervously watch and cheer as their favorites charge!

Location
Modern Day Jousting contests in the United Kingdom, are normally only found as part of re-enactment displays, Country shows, or Tablows

Age
There is no age restriction associated with modern day jousting, other than the competing Knight must be a competent horse rider and strong enough to hold and control the lance. A suggested minimum age of twelve years.

Ability
Modern Day Jousting can be enjoyed by men, women and children from all walks of life. Classes of participation are based strictly on skill level, without regard to gender or age, making this an ideal sport for any horse enthusiast or family.

Description
Most tournaments permit each rider three "charges" at the ring or rings. If after these, two or more riders have a tied score. The ring size is reduced and second round of charges is run, this format continues until a winner is determined.
Riders are without restriction as to the type of horse they may use. Types range from Shetland ponies for the smallest children to large hunters.

Dedication
Dedicated jousters have found, a level-headed, mid-size to small horse with an extremely smooth canter works best. The riders can then raise their stirrups and assume a position similar to that of a jockey. This allows the motion of the horse to be absorbed by the riders knees and lower leg. The upper body becomeing virtually motionless. This position, combined with a steady hand greatly increases the rider's likelihood of spearing the rings with his lance.
