Sungká is a popular traditional board game for two played in the Philippines. Sungka is played on a block carved out of wood called a sungkahan. The game is one of calculation over skill.
Sungká was used for religious purposes and by fortunetellers.

Location
Sungká is a Filipino game, although the game is traditionally played throughout the middle East and the African continent under various local names.

Age
All ages from eight years upwards.

Ability
This is a game of calculation over skill.

The playing pieces are used as tokens and can be Shells, pebbles, seeds or any sensibly sized item.

Description
The sungkahan consists of two rows of seven circular holes and a larger mother hole (head) at each end. The game begins with 49 game pieces equally distributed to alternate holes - seven pieces in every other hole, except the "heads" which remain empty. Each player controls the seven holes on his side of the block and owns the "head" to his right. The game ends when no pieces are left in any hole on either side of the board. The goal is to accumulate as many pieces in your own "head".

Dedication
The first player removes all pieces from the hole on the extreme left of on his side. He then distributes them anti-clockwise, one into each hole to the right of that hole, omitting an opponent's "head" but not a player's own "head".

If the last piece falls into an occupied hole then all the pieces are removed from that hole, and are distributed in the same way (to the right of that hole). The player's turn ends when the lastpiece falls into an empty hole on the opponents side.

Potential
If the last piece falls into a player's own "head", he earns another turn, which can begin at any hole on his side.
If the last piece falls into an empty hole on his side then he captures all of the opponent's pieces in the hole directly across.
