Tigua art is naïve and full of vibrant colour, yet extremely detailed, expressing much of the life and beliefs of the indigenous Ecuadorian area. traditionaly painted on sheepskin, also used for decorating drums and masks for festivals and fiestas.

The village of Tigua lies between the majestic slopes of the Cotopaxi Volcano and the breathtaking Quilotoa crater, hidden in the Andes of Ecuador.
Description
Tigua artists using chicken feather brushes on sheep hide, generally paint scenes of communal life: villagers herding livestock,spinning and weaving wool, harvesting crops and going to market, enjoying a bullfight. Other favorite subjects are Cotopaxi, the sacred, snow-covered volcano, Quilatoa with its rugged slopes, and the condor, the legendary bird of the Andes. Faces on rocks and mountains reflect the Tigua view that all nature is alive.
