Puppy Parents are volunteer trainers who raise, house and look after puppies for a variety of charities that provide highly trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities. Puppies are returned to the sponsoring charity at between 15-24 months.
Age
Most charities insist that the person responsible for the puppy should be at least 18 years of age. Younger members of the family can be involved in the puppy’s upbringing under the responsible person’s supervision.
Ability
To be a puppy parent you will first need to have a suitable area in your home to accommodate the puppy with easy access to a suitable toileting area.
The puppy will need regular familiarisation with busy town conditions such as traffic and crowds.
Dedication
The puppy will need exposure to busy town conditions, traffic, shops and crowds on a regular basis. It will also need to be familiarized with car travel and public transport. Would you be able to provide a puppy with this range of experience
Cost
The sponsoring charity normally supplies basic equipment and covers all veterinary and feeding expenses.
