Karting is a scaled down motor sport using simple small four-wheeled vehicles called karts, That are usually raced on scaled-down circuits. Karting can be a competitive sport or purely casual fun activity, enjoyed by children and adults of both sexes.

This hugely popular activity is often used as a low-cost and relatively safe way to introduce drivers to motor racing. Often associated with young drivers, adults are also very active in the sport of karting.

There are many Karting circuits spread across the UK. An all year round activity, mostly outdoors. Although some circuits are restricted to club or racing activities, many cater for the casual participant, and offer excellent tuition.

To compete in a competition you must be at least 8 years old and hold a competition Licence. Racing classes start at age 8 and generally run in 3-year age groupings until “senior” status is reached at age 15 or 16, depending on the series.

Very few perspective drivers cannot grasp a necessary basic understanding of the kart within a few minutes instruction, young children included. You will be started in a low powered, slower kart until competent to progress.

race formats are either: Sprint racing, which takes place on circuits resembling small road courses, with left and right turns. Tracks go from 1/4 to over 1 mile in length. The sprint is a series of short-duration races, over a number of laps, that qualify for a final. OR Endurance races which last for an extended period, from 30 minutes up to 24 hours, for one or more drivers. In general, consistency, reliability, and pit strategy is of greater importance than all out speed.

Karting is considered the first step in any serious racer's career. It can prepare the driver for high-speed wheel-to-wheel racing by helping develop quick reflexes, precision car control, and decision-making skills.

Although there are many leagues and competions that can be entered within karting, catering for the full range of ages and kart sizes. To many it is seen as a stepping stone in motor racing , with many well known racing heros starting out in Karts.
