Originally built as working boats in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries for carrying goods on the narrow canals and waterways. Nowadays most modern narrow boats are used for annual holidays, weekend breaks or as permanent residences.
Location
There is a network of more than two thousand miles of navigateable inland waterways, spread throughout England and Wales.
Age
Narrow boating makes an ideal family recreation, as it is equally suitable for all ages, as long as sensible safety precautions are adhered too.
Most companies that hire boats out, do have a minimum age requirement, of at least one competent person.
Description
When embarking on a narrow boating excursion, the pace of life automatically slows down, governed by the waterway speed restriction and the frequent stops to negotiate locks. Those on the water seem detached from the speed of passing road traffic and pressures of daily life, time seems insignificant, as you find you have more in common with the natural surroundings of the water and water bank. Narrow Boats are an ideal way to unwind and relax.
