Trials Biking is a form of mountain biking adapted from motorcycle trials riding. The bike rider negotiates a course consisting of man-made and natural obstacles without their feet touching the ground.

Popularity
Trials Biking has a strong, though small but rapidly increasing following, throughout the world.

Location
Trials biking has developed into two styles, Trials biking on purposely created coarces and Urban Trials Biking which uses urban street furniture as obstacles, it is often frowned on by the authorities because of the potential of damage to property.

Ability
The basic skills of trials riding can be used practically on any bicycle for improving balance and handling controll, for example controlled braking and track standing, or balancing on the bike without putting a foot down.

Description
At its most basic level, trials riding can be summed up as a competitive form of bicycle handling skills, it includes riding up and over obstacles both man-made and natural.
Competitions are decided by riding a pre-marked course with sections (obstacles). Points are deducted for not completing the course in the pre-set time, not completing the individual sections cleanly and for putting your foot down, The coarse is ridden twice. The rider with the fewest aggregate points being the winner.

Dedication
Purpose built trial bike characteristics include, but are not limited to: powerful brakes, wide handlebars, light parts, low gearing, and a thick rear tire that provides grip and a heavy emphasis on frame geometry and no seat.

Potential
Experienced trials bikers develop breathtaking skills of balance and the ability to jump the bike over obstacles (bunny hops), hop the bike vertically upwards and sideways (sidehopping), and the ability to jump onto or from the tiniest of platforms.
