Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban problems. Street Pastors engage with people on the streets to care, listen and exchange dialogue.

Popularity
Street Pastors were pioneered in London in January 2003, since when, groups have been formed in many UK cities.

Location
Street Pastors are now found operating on the streets, in many city areas, throughout Britain.

Age
Street Pastors are ordinary men and women of all ages and backgrounds. To be a Street Pastor you need to be over 18 years of age, there is no upper age limit.

Ability
A Street Pastor must be a church member and able to commit to the training programme. This covers the responsibilities of Street Pastors and involves role-play of situations likely to be encountered. Advice is given about drugs and alcohol abuse.

Description
The Street Pastor organisation runs a comprehensive training programme that is designed to fully equip new Street Pastors to respond to the needs of all the people that they are likely to come into with contact on the streets.

Training programmes are run locally in all areas where there is a Street Pastor project, and normally takes place over a period of 12 days held over 5 months.

The training will give a full awareness of today’s social problems including drugs and youth provision.

Dedication
Each Street Pastor team consists of at least three groups of four, each of which will work a minimum of one night a month, usually from 10pm to around 4am.
