Rock and Pop bands, usually consist of several guitars (one or two electric guitars, a bass guitar, and in some cases, an acoustic guitar), a keyboard player (either an organ, piano, or an electronic synthesizer), and a drummer.

Popularity
A band is not like most activities, that you can join to suit yourself, if you want to join an existing band you will have to wait until a vacancy occurs.
Bands often come together by accident when friends get together and start jamming.

Location
Finding a location to practise is a major factor for any band, Many bands practice in a bedroom or garage (family and neighbours permitting), for most it means finding a suitable hall or rehearsal studio, these can be commercial or community based.

Age
Normally starting from 12 or 14 years of age upwards, there is no upper age restriction, Just find a group of like minded musicians and start playing.

Ability
The ability to play an instrument is nessasry. How well you need to be able to play depends on the band you are joining. Remember a band is a group people, into which you must fit.

Description
Playing in a band can be one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences of your life. Full of camaraderie, creativity, exhilaration.

Dedication
The amount of dedication required depends on the individual bands aspirations;
* Are they playing just for fun?
* How much new material do they want to learn?
* Are they competitive?
* Do they want to be commercial?
* How good do they want to be?
* Regular practise and more practise is the only way to improve.
