Varpa is an old outdoor game. dating back to the Viking Age and still popularly played in Gotland today.
The game can be described as very similar to Boules, but is played with a flat and heavy throwing stone known as "varpa" instead of balls.
Popularity
An ancient game originating in the Nordic areas, that is popularly played in summer time both socially and competitively.
Age
Any age capable of throwing the heavy varpa can play.
Description
Varpa is played one against one, two against two, three against three or four against four. Between 8 and 10 stones are thrown per end.
A team scores a point for every Varpa that is nearer to the marker than the nearest opponents stone.
